Full Details of the Influencing Parent Webinar Series Recordings
Webinar 1: The Influencing Parent (Part I) – The Power of Empathy
‘My child won’t listen to me’….‘My child won’t do what I ask’
As parents, most of us find ourselves feeling those frustrations from time to time, once our babies grow to be toddlers and children.
• To be seen, heard and enjoyed – the foundation of ‘good’ behaviour
• Healing emotional wounds by listening to children’s emotions
• Creating an emotionally safe environment for our children, so they will want to communicate with us
• Understanding the impact of blocking empathy
• The negative effects of shaming
• Listening begets listening
Empathy is foundational and essential – but by itself, it is not enough. Empathy is a two-way street: as parents we also deserve consideration and respect. In the next seminar we will look at how we can communicate our own feelings, needs and limits to our children in ways that help them to listen to us – how to create and maintain connectedness.
Webinar 2: The Influencing Parent (Part II) – Telling the Truth about Feelings, Needs and Limits
• Why children often resist following the rules
• Why children often won’t do ‘as they are told’
• Natural consequences work, punishment does not – what is the difference?
• The power of emotionally authentic communication
• The problems caused by star-charts, sweet treats, point-scoring and similar reward systems
• What are intrinsic rewards, and why do they work best?
